Looking ahead - Lewis

Postby Lewis » Sun Mar 24, 2013 3:56 pm

Hi folks. I've been having a think what I might run later this year.

In the not too distant, for some epic mid-level fantasy, I'll be starting the final part of the totally awesome Vanguard Trilogy in The Chronicles of Corwyn. I believe all slots are filled with: Edwyn, Matt, Sam, Colin, Mick, Ant and Mark.

If I get my hands on Lace & Steel, I'll be running a 17th Century fantasy that has elements of Ironclaw, 7th Sea and Castle Falkenstein. I'm reserving one space for Edwyn, up to five slots are open.

At some point before 2013 collapses in a post-Xmas alcoholic daze, I'll be running a classic spy-fi adventure using the James Bond 007 RPG. Again, I'm reserving one space for Edwyn, up to five slots are open.

PS: I've won a copy of Lace & Steel on eBay. However, even if I hadn't, I could always have run games of Ironclaw, 7th Sea and Castle Falkenstein! :D

Playing: Telford: Dark Heresy.
Running: Cannock: Legends of Corwyn/D&D, Telford: Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerûn/D&D.
Prepping: Chill (modern day horror) Tales From The Loop (1980s sci-fi/horror)

(including Web/Orion supplements, Commando, Agent 13, F.R.E.E.Lancers, Covert Ops and High Stakes Gamble), d20 Modern, James Bond 007, Mercenaries, Spies & Private Eyes (incl. Stormhaven), Daredevils, Gangbusters.

Horror: Chill (both versions), d20, Call of Cthulhu, Beyond the Supernatural, Colonial Gothic, Masque of the Red Death, Fright Night.

Am definitely interested in playing D&D, will take a slot for sure if you definitely wanna give it a shot. Will be a beginner for D&D, so go easy on me! (ha!?)

Re: Looking ahead - Lewis (not enough weeks!)

Postby Lewis » Tue Mar 26, 2013 6:35 pm

OK, I've looked at a calendar and done some calculations. There are just 39 Sundays left to Christmas 2013. Yes, only 39. Scary!

Assuming we bump the break week by 1 week, due to snow, then I have 2 more weeks of Legends of Kernow. Of the remaining weeks, I will not be around for 4 of them due to gigs/holidays, etc. Another 1 week is out as the hall is used for rehearsals. 6 more weeks will be Break weeks. That leaves 26 weeks.

I want 5 of those to run James Bond 007. That leaves 21.

I reckon that Fortress of the Yuan-Ti, the final book of the Vanguard Trilogy for The Chronicles of Corwyn, will require approximately 15 weeks in total.

Now, if I ran the whole of Fortress of the Yuan-Ti in 2013, that would leave only 6 playing weeks (count 'em!) when I'm not running something at the club. On top of that I'm also running an epic Forgotten Realms campaign on alternate Wednesdays in Telford. No wonder I'm knackered!

I think that's too much - plus I'd also like to play things at the club which are run by other people.

So, I reckon the rest of the year will see me run 5 weeks of James Bond 007 and just 10 weeks (two-thirds) of Fortress of the Yuan-Ti. That will leave the final third of Fortress of the Yuan-Ti to be played in 2014 and leave me approx. 11 weeks this year to play in other GM's games (not counting break weeks).

Once Fortress of the Yuan-Ti is finished in early 2014, I'd like to take a long break from Corwyn. Now, I'm open to ideas, but I have a hankering to run a long-form Classic Traveller epic campaign (I've got a couple of possibilities in mind). Unlike when I run CT as a one-off side-game, this would be a serious campaign. Then, from time-to-time I could run Lace & Steel, Legends of Kernow or Spycraft as side-games in 2014.

How does that sound to everyone?

Playing: Telford: Dark Heresy.
Running: Cannock: Legends of Corwyn/D&D, Telford: Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerûn/D&D.
Prepping: Chill (modern day horror) Tales From The Loop (1980s sci-fi/horror)

all sounds good to me. Jerry ran a traveller game and i loved it, we turned it into a micro management in that we ended up with 3 ships in the party, one as a passanger ship, one as a cargo ship and one as an escort ship, and we were planning the best routes for most profits etc, really enjoyed it!

Yes, I've enjoyed some open-ended Traveller games myself in the past where the players - myself included - worked their characters up "from deckhands to Merchant Princes".

However, just to be clear, that's not what I'm thinking of doing once the current story arc in Corwyn is over. There's a couple of strong story-based Traveller epics I fancy a crack at - and I'll pick one of them. Compared to a typical CT campaign, the campaigns I have in mind will have rather more emphasis on story/plot/character, and rather less on how big your bank account is or open-ended capitalist fannying-about in some libertarian Ayn Rand-style galactic sandbox.

;)

Cheers.

Playing: Telford: Dark Heresy.
Running: Cannock: Legends of Corwyn/D&D, Telford: Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerûn/D&D.
Prepping: Chill (modern day horror) Tales From The Loop (1980s sci-fi/horror)
